Single frequency smartphone based GNSS measurements for absolute TEC estimations

We present the results of TEC measurements derived from single frequency GNSS measurements obtained at new generation smartphones. It becomes possible to extract raw GNSS measurements recently and only for limited number of mobile devices [Banville and van Diggelen, 2016]. We have used two smartphones of the same model and the tablet, which supports “no duty cycle” i.e. phase measurements are available. We tested different regimes: static both indoor and outdoor as well as when device moves in user hand or pocket. We have simultaneous measurements from two devices to test data noise compensation when data from one source are noisy.The noisiness of a data, especially in non-static regime, requires extra processing to be used in absolute TEC estimations. The time ranges of ambiguous measurements can simply estimated by standard deviation and can be replaced by measurements from other devices not exposed by such a disturbance. This is first naive attempt for data clarification, which need to be further improved to make absolute TEC estimation technique applicable. The measured data are analysed for feasibility absolute TEC estimation based on TayAbsTec technique [Mylnikova et al., 2017]. We modified the technique to work in near real-time (5 minute lag). About 30-minutes data collecting is required for technique to start yielding absolute TEC and other data products. The technique is to be further modified to take differential code biases to improve cold start time. The work is supported by RFBR project №18-35-00218 mol_a.
